Doin' What He Otter ...

Yesterday and today we were treated to a wonderful sight. An otter decided to go fishing in the cold water in front of the Kahshe Cottage. I was able to get some photos using my zoom but he was so far away it wasn't as detailed as I had wished for. I simply must get a better camera!

My First Effort...

Photobucket

I decided to try making my own wine at a local shop a couple of months ago. They called yesterday to say it was ready for bottling. Here it is as it gets the label added. After this I put a black shrink wrap over the cork and it was done. In less than an hour I was on my way home with 30 bottles. It will be another six months before it has aged enough to drink. I am quite pleased with myself so far!

Spring Sightings

Fox2 alt
I spotted this furry fellow while coming home from a shopping trip. He was skirting the edge of the road and we followed along side for a while. I got a few shots off but this one showed his face the best. I have altered it slightly in Photoshop to highlight the details of his face and fur. Yes, I know it was a "he" (also known as a dog fox or reynard) because he lifted his leg at every bush he passed to mark his territory. A little further on he found a squirrel and we watched for a while as he had lunch.

Moose 2
This photo of the yearling moose was taken by my neighbour as I arrived on the scene too late to get one of my own. It had been separated from its mother, according to the people who lived nearby, by wolves which had chased it out of the bush. After a few days it went back into the bush to rejoin its mother who had been calling for her calf. The photo has been altered in Photoshop to improve the resolution.

Looking Out From The Muskoka Wharf

Photobucket

This photo was taken from the Muskoka Wharf in Gravenhurst. As you can see it was late in the afternoon and the sun was going down. I was surprised to see the vapour trail in the photo making it look like the sun had been flying through the air to explode just as I snapped the photo. It was very cold the day I took this and my fingers nearly froze in the short time I took a few photos.

The Blahs....

November 08
taken from the deck in early December before the ice set in

I have been dealing with the BLAHS since New Year's Day. Every year it seems to happen at this time. I don't know why but I have not been able to get it together to blog or do anything with my computer since then. I haven't responded to emails, I haven't visited anybody's blogs and I haven't been taking photographs either.

Today I am actually forcing myself to write because I noticed I have had at least 15 messages from people wondering if I am okay and where I am! Guilty of avoidance ... my only reason for not doing this sooner.

I am fine - my health is good. I haven't been a recluse - we have been going out and doing things. I have been knitting - making hats and mittens for my grandkids for next Christmas (four of eight sets are done). The Darling Man and I have begun some volunteer work at the local community policing office and we have been back and forth to Toronto to visit our children. We continue to work on our home here at Kahshe trying to make our place feel less like a cottage. The kitchen is coming along - it has been a work in progress for 20 years but I can now say I have a counter and cupboards that look a little less like a temporary camp and more like a modern kitchen. A leak in our roof set us back a little as part of a wall had to come down and go back up. It is almost ready to be repainted now.

I have just been avoiding the computer for some reason! I will be easing myself back into blogging over the next month and I am sure the dreaded BLAHS will disappear as we get more sunshine and the promise of spring.

Thank you everyone for your care and concern!
I will be making the rounds again to visit soon!
Promise!
