Sky Watch ~ Down The Road & Into The Sunset

Do join the fun of Sky Watch Friday and see skies from around the world here.

Photobucket
Another power outage has made me late for Sky Watch this week but at least I can post now.
Another storm is headed our way and I am guessing I will have another outage by tomorrow so please forgive me if I am late returning your visits.

This is something that seems to be happening on a regular basis here every time it snows.
The Darling Man and I have not had so many romantic meals by lamplight since we were married! lol

This is a photo that I have blended from three exposures taken in slightly different places as I was taking it from the car window (I was a passenger!)
I liked the ghosting effect it created.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sepia Scenes ~ Anne of Green Gables Museum, Bala, Ontario

I missed the fun last week because of a long power outage! This photo was taken during the Cranberry Festival in Bala, Ontario. Part of the Festival includes a contest run by the museum to choose an Anne lookalike. This little outfit was hanging just outside the Museum door. I thought it was perfect for a sepia photo this week.

Fun With My Daughter

Photobucket
Well, I have been having a lovely time with my daughter in Ayr. While the Darling Man is working with her partner to install a hardwood floor we have had Mother/Daughter time. We visited the Farmers' Market it St. Jacobs and bought some lovely breads and meat to make special meals for the hard working men. She also introduced me to their Wii system ... and now I am hooked! We have been playing pinball tournaments for the past 3 days! I can see where we may have to get one of our own!

After The BIG Power Outage

Photobucket
The Hydro One crews were hard at work all over Muskoka restoring power from dawn to dusk.

Photobucket
Taken from the side of the road 2 days after the storm.

Have you missed me? Muskoka was included in a snowstorm that hit much of central Ontario last weekend. 135,000 people lost their power ~ including us! Ours was out for 36 hours but some others went without for much longer. This meant no computer time for me so I missed Today's Flower, Sepia Scenes and Sky Watch this week.

That was the downside. The upside is that we drove to Toronto to keep medical appointments and then off to visit my youngest daughter in Ayr for a few days. I had limited computer access until I got to Ayr yesterday so I am taking advantage of her computer access to post today.

Please forgive me for slow return visits ... I have read and appreciated all comments that have been left over the last week and will be making the return visits as fast as I can ... but I do want to spend some time with my daughter. It has been close to three months since I last saw her.

Have a fabulous weekend!

Saturday's View From My Window

Photobucket
I looked out to see the helicopter carrying a large box and following the hydro lines. It was a little too far away and moving fast enough that it was a challenge to catch it. I suspect it was the Hydro company delivering something along the line in the bush where it is inaccessible by land vehicles.

Sky Watch Friday ~ Rocket Into The Sunset

Do join the fun of Sky Watch Friday and see skies from around the world here.

Jet trail

The vapour trail of this jet stood out against this evening sky so vividly that I thought it could be a rocket being launched into the setting sun.

Power Pylons

This began as a colour photo which I converted to B/W in Photoshop Elements, added the sepia filter and then used the old photo filter to age the paper.

Today's Flower ~ Peony Ruffles

Do join the fun of Todays Flower hosted by Luiz here.

Peony Ruffles

We just got back from Toronto last evening and then we had a power outage until just after lunch so I am late posting today! This is a photo of one of my peony flowers which I took earlier in the summer. It reminds me of all of the ruffles on a ballerina's tutu!

Today's Flower ~ Foxglove

Foxglove

Taken earlier this summer ...

Wild Turkeys

Turkeys
Yesterday as we were leaving to go into town, we heard the wild turkeys in the bush. They emerged just ahead of the car on our driveway so I snapped a picture from the window. If I had tried to get out of the car they would have disappeared back into the bush.

Now that the weather is getting colder they are gathering into flocks and roaming the area in search of food. This group has 12 -15 members and part of their daily circuit includes our property. For now they are not coming too close to the Kahshe Cottage itself but once there is snow on the ground and they are hungry, they come almost to our door.

This makes it very easy to see them and photograph but it drives my dog Jesse nuts. Jesse is a Cairn terrier and she was born to hunt. And she has decided she wants to catch a turkey ... Jesse weighs about 14 pounds soaking wet and is about one third the height of these birds! She is so determined to catch one we have had to resort to a reflective collar, a bear bell in the day time so we can hear her, and we also attach a red strobe light to her collar when it is dark so we can see her! (She is a brindle, she is camouflaged when she gets into the bush.)
