Today we went into Gravenhurst for lunch and since I knew we would be near the Muskoka Wharf, I brought my camera along. The Segwun and her sister ship, the Wenonah II are docked there and I thought a winter photo of them would be nice to add to my collection.
I was so shocked when I saw the Segwun as it was listing heavily to one side. Apparently it began taking on water last night some time and staff were working to bail it out. Five pumps have been in operation since this morning and one of the men told me they still didn't know where or why the water was coming in. They had just brought in a pumper truck to help remove the water when I was there. These men were working in minus 17 degrees C and I don't believe that reflected the added cold of the wind that was blowing across the water. I could only stand to be out there for a few minutes with my camera.
The Segwun is one of the historic steamships which are moored at this wharf. For more information please click here.
My husband and I have enjoyed several dinner cruises aboard this boat as it tours Lake Muskoka. It is one of the best loved symbols of Muskoka.

I hope the ship can be saved and repaired.
Hugs and blessings,
Oh dear, I can well imagine what a shock it was to see the Segwun listing to one side like that...hopefully they find out where the water is coming in from and put a stop to it. I think I mentioned before that Steve & I had planned on going on a dinner cruise on her last summer but the day we were there, it was out on a special outing. Hopefully next summer and we will certainly let you know when we'll be there:-) xoxo
I'm sure they'll get it fixed. Your photos are so cold looking that I now know I could never live there in winter...I had thought about moving to Canada several times because of Bush :-)
:( This is a shock to see. I love the Segwun :(:(
My husband and I used to go to Gravenhurst on his day off, when we lived in Stouffville and Gormley --in the '60's.
Oh I hate cold weather -- even though I do come from Yorkshire!
Absolutely beautiful photography. I'll pray for the Segwuns survival. Boarded her many times as well as the Sagamo, Cherokee and the Ilander (grocery boat) while spending summers on Lake Joseph, one of the most beautiful places on earth.
